As Holiday break rolls around, the Fourcast investigates the top five places to go see Christmas lights in the Dallas metroplex. Here is what we found:
Deerfield
This Plano neighborhood is like any other, until Dec. 1 rolls around. These houses go through a Cinderella-esque transformation in the holiday season, with houses being outfitted with colorful Christmas lights and lavish decorations. The lights run from Dec. 1 to 30, from 7-11 p.m., but most houses turn on their lights at dark. There is no fee to drive through the neighborhood, but the Deerfield website asks for a donation to Children’s Medical Center. There is also a map on the website with the best route through the neighborhood. Deerfield is located in Northwest Plano between Preston Rd. and Coit Rd.
Highland Park
A luxurious neighborhood located between the Dallas North Tollway and I-75, approximately 3 miles north of downtown Dallas and near popular locations such as Lower Greenville and Knox/Henderson. The mansions in the neighborhood are spectacularly outfitted with a seemingly endless array of lights. With plenty of lawn to place Christmas decorations on, you are sure to be blinded by a glittering display of lights unique to each house. Several companies, such as Brazos Carriage, offer carriage rides.
Interlochen
Listed as a tourist attraction, the Interlochen Christmas Lights spectacle is sure to please. Located in Arlington, the residents of this neighborhood won a Griswold Award for their legendary lights and attractions. This year the lights run from 7-11 p.m., Dec. 16-25. Drive-through entrance point is at the intersection of Randol Mill Rd and Westwood Dr in Arlington. For more information go the City of Arlington’s website.
Vitruvian Lights
Vitruvian Park in Addison has been transformed into a sparkling winter spectacle. Millions of lights are wrapped around over 550 trees. The Vetruvian Lights, ongoing through Jan. 1, are turned on every night at 5:30 p.m. and turned off at 11 p.m. Wrap up in a warm jacket and enjoy the image of millions of rainbow Christmas lights reflecting off the pond. The Park is located south of Spring Valley Road and west of Midway Road.
Magic of Christmas Light Show
Dubbed the “Christmas Capital of Texas,” Grapevine showcases more than one million lights in its nightly Magic of Christmas Light Show. Other than nights, there are also enormous decorations, animated characters, and more. If you don’t want to see the lights, there are over 1,400 Christmas events in 40 days, like events at the Gaylord, riding on the Grapevine Vintage Railroad’s North Pole Express, and buying Christmas gifts at Grapevine’s Historic Downtown Grapevine. The Magic of Christmas Light Show runs from Nov. 22 to Jan. 7 from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Main Street and Dallas Road in Grapevine.
