SPC Recap May 2018

SPC+Recap+May+2018

Throughout this past week, Hockaday athletes competed in track, golf, tennis, softball and lacrosse the Southwest Preparatory Conference (SPC). Several of the teams came back from the week victorious.

Softball

Last Thursday the softball team played their first game. However, it was raining off and on the entire day leading up to the match. Because of this, their opponent, the number 3 seed John Cooper School, assumed the game had been cancelled and proceeded to enjoy Main Event while the Hockaday softball team was warming up. The John Cooper School arrived an hour late to the game. Although the Hockaday softball team lost the game, they all played very well according to softball player Xan Orchid.

Golf

Golfers competed on April 30th and May 1st. They ended the first day of golfing heading into the final round in second place out of the 12 teams. They ended the second day and the tournament in third place. Additionally, freshman Ocean Park shot a 77, her lowest score ever at a tournament.

Tennis

Tennis also came in third place at the tournament. After winning their quarterfinals 3-0 against the Episcopal School of Dallas (ESD), they faced Kinkaid in the semi-finals. Even though they lost their semi-final match, they won third place by beating Houston Christian 3-0.

Track and Field

Meanwhile, Track and Field won second place this weekend with 171 points. Track runners Rory Finn, Sophie Isom, Isabella Shadle and Justice Coutee-McCullum broke the school record for the 4×100 relay race in 48.49 seconds. Junior Adoette Vaughan also broke a school record for the 800 meter race with a time of 2:15:88.

Lacrosse

Lastly, the lacrosse team had a successful weekend coming in first at SPC. They won their first and second round games and were set to play ESD for first. They beat ESD 16-8 in the final round, winning first place.

The Hockaday SPC spring sports teams ultimately came away with 2 third places, 1 second place, and 1 first place.
