PETA suggests that 2.5 percent of the population of the country eat vegan. Of that small fraction, however, several are widely known celebrities. With their status in America society, these influential people are probably most equipped to spread awareness.
Ellen Degeneres
Since 2008, talk show host, Ellen Degeneres, has eliminated animal products from her diet in support of animals. PETA named her the 2009 Woman of the Year as an activist for animal rights. Degeneres also promotes ‘Meatless Mondays’ and adopting a turkey over Thanksgiving instead of eating one as a way to spread awareness.
Russell Brand
Ex-Husband to Katy Perry and actor, Russell Brand, has eaten strictly vegan for two years now, after being inspired by the film, “Forks Over Knives.”
Al Gore
Al Gore, former Vice President of the United States, turned vegan in 2013 for a number of reasons. He specifically made the switch off the premise that it is beneficial to the environment.
Usher
After one year of veganism, R&B star and millionaire, Usher, decided veganism is “too expensive.”
Woody Harrelson
Because of his love for the environment, animal rights and his own health, Woody Harrelson, who plays Haymitch in “Hunger Games,” is a tireless activist for veganism. When he was just 12 years old, he wrote a 50 page paper about deforestation.
Bill Clinton
Former President of the United States, Bill Clinton, adopted the vegan diet starting in 2010, in order to change his health for the better. At age 65, he underwent a triple bypass surgery that could have ended his life. He decided to take charge of his life and stop “playing Russian Roulette” with it.
Carrie Underwood
“American Idol” season 3 winner and popular country artist, Carrie Underwood, is one of the most vocal vegans in Hollywood.
Mike Tyson
Four and a half years ago, Tyson transformed his life and lost 150 pounds by not eating animal products. Today he works to advocate for this life-changing diet.
