Tips and Tricks: Maintain a Balanced Lifestyle

Tips+and+Tricks%3A+Maintain+a+Balanced+Lifestyle

The Frozen Fix

Whether you prefer a pint of Ben and Jerry’s or a Ha?agen-Dazs fudgesicle, frozen treats can be addicting. However, you can leave the calories behind and get what you’re craving by substituting your Ben and Jerry’s for an all-natural, homemade ice cream. All it takes is a blender filled with frozen bananas and a few scoops of peanut butter to create a healthy and simple alternative.

It’s All in Your Head

In 2015, Harvard neuroscientist Sara Lazar proved that stress can trigger powerful sugar cravings. So if you find yourself stressing over college apps or tests, go to a quiet and dark room to practice some meditation. Joining a local yoga studio can also help to reduce your daily stress and in turn reduce sugar cravings.

Kombucha Kicks Away Your Cravings

This fermented tea drink found at most grocery stores is a quick and easy way to satisfy a sugar obsession. Try out Holy Kombucha’s green apple ginger or revelation raspberry flavor for your daily sugar fix. Bonus: Holy Kombucha is brewed right here in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Bake It ’til You Make It

Don’t stick to the recipe. Swap out sugar for a more natural alternative, like honey or pure maple syrup. Greek yogurt can also be a substitute for butter, sour cream or cream cheese in many cases. In recipes like chocolate chip banana bread, try out chopped up nuts or fruit instead of chocolate chips. By using healthier ingredients, you can still enjoy all of your favorite sweet treats, everything from chocolate cake to cookies.
