On Oct. 15, students, faculty, members of the Hockaday community and distinguished guests gathered in Penson Gym to celebrate the installation of Dr. Karen Warren Coleman as the 13th Eugene McDermott Head of School. The installation featured the Upper School Concert Choir as well as student speakers, including the presidents of Lower, Middle and Upper Student Council. Colby College President Dr. David A. Greene gave the keynote address before Coleman was officially initiated. In her own remarks, Coleman highlighted the strength of feminism and the importance of a girl’s education. Rev. Elizabeth Davenport, the Dean of Rockefeller Memorial Chapel at University of Chicago read the invocation and benediction. The afternoon ended with the entire student body singing the school song and a reception on Commencement Terrace.
