On a hot sunny day, boarding students unwound in the pool with unicorn floaties and water guns, while others played Jenga, beanbag toss and Twister in the shade. To celebrate the “sisterhood, the joy of the dorm, being together,” as Director of Residence Life Jill Flinders said, or just to relax, the Residence Life Department hosted a pool party for the boarders on Sept. 2 at the outdoor pool.
There was an unusual aspect of this party unlike any others: unlimited Hawaiian shaved ice, satisfying the students’ sweet tooth.
“I liked how there was a [truck], so everyone could… choose their own flavor, and that was great,” freshman Catherine Choi said.
In addition to this special treat, she found herself to be closer with her new friends through this opportunity – just as Flinders and Assistant Director of Residence Life Yesela Tadeo hoped for.
“I think this was a great start to the school year,” Tadeo said, “and I hope everyone in residence continues to make it out to any events we host.”
