On Aug. 21, the class of 2025 kick-started their senior year by attending the annual Senior Sunrise at Hockaday.
The seniors donned their traditional, red-sleeved senior nickname shirts, others in uniform, and many rocking cute cowgirl boots.
The early morning consisted of music, breakfast and most many photo-ops.
The girls posed and hugged for photos while watching the sunrise. Following the popular tradition seen year after year, the class of 2025 dedicated time to decorate their cars in preparation for this event.
“The night before, my friends and I all hung out together to play music and paint our cars,” said senior Celine Ebert. “We called it ‘Senior Eve.’ ”
Many members of the class of 2025 cited Senior Sunrise as one of their most beloved and anticipated traditions for rising seniors.
“It felt surreal, it honestly feels like my grade was freshmen just last week,” Ebert said. “Experiencing senior sunrise made me realize how much we have grown as grade and how ready we are to take on senior year.”
Senior Anne Cahoon had bittersweet feelings regarding the tradition.
“As this year is my fifteenth year at Hockaday, I have grown up with and spent the majority of my life with the girls at Senior Sunrise,” says Cahoon. “And after experiencing my older sister’s senior year second-hand, it was really odd to be in her same position three years later.”
Overall, the Senior Sunrise was a meaningful moment for many of the seniors.
“It built up a lot of excited and spirit about our grade, we got so excited to see one another and celebrate the fact that we are finally seniors,” Ebert said.
“I think that the senior sunrise definitely brought us together as a grade, and my favorite part was the fact that we were all experiencing it together as an entire grade,” said Cahoon.
