Questions for Mey

Sophomore Mey, a boarder from Bremen, Germany, is so far enjoying her time at Hockaday. Photo provided by Mey

Boarding at Hockaday from Bremen, Germany, sophomore Merle (Mey) is very excited about the new experiences she will have in America.

1.        Where did you grow up?

I grew up in a town called Bremen in the Northwest of Germany.

Story continues below advertisement

2.        How long did you live there?

I have lived there my whole life. We lived in the town center until I was three and then we moved to the suburbs.

3.        What was your favorite part about living there?

It is a good place to grow up because it is a very green town with lots of space for small children. Plus it is small enough to reach your friends quickly and to know a good part of the children your age but not small enough to get boring.

4.       Favorite book?

“To Kill a Mockingbird” and “The Northern Light”

5.       Favorite TV show?

Possibly “New Girl” or “Awkward”…I also like “How I Met Your Mother.”

6.       What was your favorite thing to do on the weekends where you lived?

I used to spend a lot of time with my friends. We’d go to the riverbanks in the evenings to meet new people or we used to bake together or go to the movies or go shopping or just meet up and do nothing much.

7.       How do you like Hockaday?

What I probably like best are the small classes and how much the teachers can concentrate on you and your personal problems or questions. The facilities are also great it’s good to have such a big campus with so many different things to try out and achieve.

8.        Are you doing any sports? If so do you like it?

I am managing JV [Field Hockey] for the games but practice normally with them and it’s fun even though I had to get used to the hot temperatures first.

9.      What is your favorite thing so far about Dallas?

Unfortunately I must admit that apart from the Hockaday and St. Marks campuses and Preston Royal and Chick-Fil-A I haven’t seen much of Dallas yet. I’m still trying to change that.

10.   If you could have one super power what would it be?

I’d love to be able to be at more than one place at a time or maybe beam myself around the world.
