SPC Recap

Basketball

Hockaday Basketball went in as the fifth seed from the north zone. They played first game on Thursday, Feb. 9 at 5:30 p.m. against Fort Worth Country Day and lost 51-26. In their next game, they played against St. Andrew’s and lost 51-41. Basketball left SPC in tenth place.

According to senior and captain Erica Jones, the highlight of SPC was the second and third quarters of their first game against St. Andrews.

“We made a comeback in that game after starting down 13-2, and then tying it up by half,” Jones said. “I’m really proud of our team. We came along way from last year and the start of the season and even though the outcome doesn’t really show it, we played well in SPC and stayed competitive in both of our games.”

Hockaday Soccer entered SPC as the second seed from the north zone. Their first game was on Friday, Feb. 10 at 12 p.m. against St. Stephen’s, which they won 3-1, advancing them to the semifinals later that day at 6 p.m. Against Kincaid, they lost 2-0. In their game against St. John’s on Saturday, they lost 2-0. Soccer left SPC in fourth place.

Junior and player Rory Finn reflects on their last game against St. John’s.

“The last game was definitely a tough one because we were all so tired from the previous two games,” Finn said. “We didn’t get the result we wanted, but in the end, I’m proud of the game we played. We played good soccer.

Swimming

Hockaday Swimming and Diving’s swim meet began at 10 a.m. at the Conroe ISD Natatorium. Swimming and Diving left SPC in second place, losing to Kincaid by three points.

Senior and co-captain Carolina Campbell, despite their mere loss, is proud of the team.

“This has been the fastest year of swimming that I’ve ever seen in my four years,” Campbell said. “We were only supposed to score 59 points but we scored 100, so that just shows how fast people swam.”
