The iPhone X has been dubbed by Fox News as “the best upgrade from Apple in seven years,” and I personally agree. The smooth glass back, the sharp OLED screen and the crisp-clear camera all make up one of Apple’s most genius inventions since the introduction of the iPhone.
A step up from the iPhone 7 and 8, the iPhone X has several new features: a new, nearly bezel-less 5.8 inch “Super Retina” size screen, an OLED screen with a “1,000,000 to 1 contrast ratio,” a TrueDepth camera that allows for facial recognition and an all-new glass back design.
The phone is easy to hold, the perfect balance between the 4.7 inch screen and the 5.5 inch screen. Although the glass back is a fingerprint magnet, the high-quality glass back and stainless-steel sides are luxurious, making the phone seem more expensive than it already is. It’s not difficult to hold at all; just slap a case on it to prevent any cracks that may happen.
The display is impeccable: Apple’s first organic light-emitting diode (OLED) screen does not disappoint. The colors are vibrant and crisp, and the photos are balanced and not too saturated.
The camera, a new vertical design, is similar to the one on the iPhone 8 in tech specs, but the iPhone X rear camera has a f/2.4 aperture, making the shutter speed faster and able to pass through more light. The photos are stunning on the OLED screen, and photos taken with the “portrait” option blur the background to focus on the subject, making the selfies you take some of the best yet.
The iPhone X features a new A11 bionic chip inside, which is 70 percent more energy efficient and 25 percent faster than the previous A10 chip. This makes the iPhone X way faster than the iPhone 7, which I noticed while using. Everything from texting, to loading apps to looking stuff up on the internet is faster.
The lack of a home button hasn’t really been a problem. It took me a little while to get used to the movements necessary to perform functions that the home button usually would, but within a week you will not miss it. The “swipe up” feature is better than a button, most of the time.
The facial recognition is stupendous. Lightning fast and scarily accurate, you barely have to glance at your phone screen before it unlocks. It learns your face, so if you put on glasses or grow a beard, it’ll still recognize you.
The price is high, at $999 for the 64 gigabyte version and $1,149 for the 256 gigabyte version. I would say it’s worth it, regardless of what model iPhone you currently have. The iPhone X is a brand new machine with features unlike any previous iPhone, so if you have an upgrade available, use it before they’re sold out.
