Turkey Trot
The 48th Annual Dallas YMCA Turkey Trot is on Nov. 25 this year and will include both a 5K run and an eight mile run. The participating fee is $35 and for an additional $5 runners can be timed with a chip. All timed runners must be in place at 8:40 a.m. in order to start before the walkers. There is also a Tot Trot for kids who are under 6 years of age. The run begins at Dallas City Hall and continues through some iconic Dallas scenery like Deep Ellum and the Trinity River. The Turkey Trot is a particularly popular event because participants can join the YMCA for no fee and it has become a family Thanksgiving tradition for many families.
Senior Elise Gunter and her family often run in this event. “The people running around me whether they are disabled or [not are] just having a great time early in the morning, [they] remind me I have a lot to be thankful for,” Gunter said.

Feast of Sharing
The Feast of Sharing is a popular way to serve the community in November. Organized by H-E-B, this event allows volunteers to serve Thanksgiving dinner to up to 20,000 people over two locations: Dallas Fair Park and Will Rogers Memorial Center in Fort Worth. Over the past several years, community service clubs at Hockaday have organized trips to serve at the Feast of Sharing.

Autumn at the Arboretum
Beautiful fall flowers, pumpkins, and gourds line the paths and create a plethora of colors this fall at the Arboretum from Sept. 19 to Nov. 25. The beautiful scene takes a standard pumpkin patch to a new level. This year the event was featured in Country Living as one of the “Best Fall Festivals” for 2015.
Sophomore Camryn Dixon visited the arboretum with a group of friends and they enjoyed the colors and flowers. “The flowers everywhere were bright and vibrant,” Dixon said, “the pumpkin patch was a fun addition that all of the kids enjoy.”
