Artscast Episode 8: The Bruce Wood Dance Company

Artscast+Episode+8%3A+The+Bruce+Wood+Dance+Company

ArtsCast went behind the scenes into one of Dallas’ most renowned dance companies, the Bruce Wood Dance Project, as they prepared for their then-upcoming performance for the Holidays, “Mistletoe Magic.”

BWDP was established in 2011, after the Fort Worth-based Bruce Wood Dance Company folded in 2007 under visionary choreographer Bruce Wood.

The company continues his extensive legacy while forging ahead into a new era, with emerging choreographers and exciting performances, even after Bruce Wood’s sudden death in 2014. Led by artistic director Kimi Nikaidoh, a former dancer for Wood, the BWDP is in the middle of their fifth season. They continue to receive recognition not only for their technical execution but ability to make an emotional impact on the audience. D Magazine named the BWDP “Best of Big D: Best Dance Company” in both 2013 and 2014. Hockaday has the great honor to have former Bruce Wood dancer Christie Sullivan as a member of the performing arts faculty. She brings Wood’s knowledge and wisdom in the form of captivating dances to Hockaday’s very own studios.
