At the beginning of each year, Upper School Student Council (StuCo) selects a theme as an opportunity for students to exhibit growth around campus.

This year’s “Capture the Moment” theme highlights the importance of being in the present.

“A lot of past themes were centered around schoolwork, so we wanted to do something that focused on the student balance,” StuCo President Cortney Buford said. “As Hockadaisies, we often forget that we are also people, so we forget to have fun and enjoy things. This year, we put an emphasis on enjoying things; even when it’s hard and there’s not a lot to enjoy, just finding a little thing to bring yourself a little bit of joy.”

As a way to capture this year’s memories StuCo plans to document student life and activities regularly.

“If you look on the Student Council board, there’s a section dedicated to pictures from events throughout the year that we’ve been updating,” StuCo Vice President Peyton Johnson said. “That’s just a small reminder as people walk by of all the different events and things that we’ve had going on this year to celebrate.”

StuCo also plans to develop social media content encouraging this theme to the Upper School.

“We are starting a few different series that embrace capturing the moment and learning more about each other, one being our pictures with baby pictures of teachers, which is trying to help bring some humor to the Instagram and have our students be more aware of the faculty on campus,” Johnson said. “Another thing we want to implement is a question of the day (QOTD) where we go to different affinity groups, clubs and organizations, ask them all a question and receive their answers on it, just to spread awareness about the different people on campus.”
